Example
On a $500 USD transfer to Jamaica, a provider with a $5 fee and a 2% FX margin will deliver less than the headline rate suggests. This comparison ranks providers by received amount, not by the advertised fee.
What is the cheapest way to send money to Jamaica?
It depends on the amount and payment method, but digital-first providers (Remitly, WorldRemit, Xoom) often beat cash-pickup giants on small transfers. This tool ranks typical options by how much actually arrives.
Why does the amount my family receives differ from the amount I send?
Two costs come out: a flat transfer fee and an FX margin (the gap between the mid-market rate and the provider's rate). The margin is often the bigger cost and is easy to overlook.
What is an FX margin?
It's the percentage a provider adds to the mid-market exchange rate. A 2% margin on a $500 transfer costs about $10 in value, on top of any flat fee.
Western Union vs Remitly — which is better for Trinidad?
For smaller amounts, Remitly's lower fee and margin usually deliver more TTD. For large cash pickups, Western Union's network may be more convenient. Compare both for your exact amount.
