Why does the amount my family receives differ from the amount I send?
Two costs come out: a flat transfer fee and an FX margin (the gap between the mid-market rate and the provider's rate). The margin is often the bigger cost and is easy to overlook.
What is an FX margin?
It's the percentage a provider adds to the mid-market exchange rate. A 2% margin on a $500 transfer costs about $10 in value, on top of any flat fee.
Western Union vs Remitly — which is better for Trinidad?
